Ammon Hillman plays reports from Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Aguilar about a boy named Amir, shot after receiving food at an aid site, and holds that image up as the primary source his audience usually refuses to look at. The show says this is what the prophet does: not predict trivia, but force you to see your own stain, and the older text is then brought in to show the same machinery working in the past.
The key word for the episode is the rift. Elizabeth is said to give birth to the one who rips the void open, and the show pulls the Greek from the lexicon, where phalanx (φάλαγξ) means a cleft, a chasm, a ravine, or a cave. John is the son of that rift, a figure from outside the cities who crosses the invisible through drugs and music. The four elements of Apollo are laid out as the same kit: music, medicine, prophecy, and toxins, and the prophet who works through them has a thunder voice, a brontophōnos (βροντόφωνος) voice, with burning palms that the text says are not consumed.The last part turns the language back into the war.
