Video Description
The first Satanic oracle arrives in a document so difficult that even a careful translator like Georg Luck leaves question marks in the English. The episode reads the voice behind it as Cleopatra, an Echidnaic priestess, and the people asking her questions are the magi, led by Ostanes. Ammon Hillman translates the greeting that opens the rite: in her is hidden the mystery of horror and paradox, with the three key words marked, the musterion (μυστήριον) itself, phritton (φρικτόν), the horror, and paradoxon (παράδοξον), the contrary-to-expectation that the show says was also an official rank for the best athletes, musicians, and artists.
What the magi want to know is how the above comes down into the below, and Cleopatra answers by naming Zoe. The text points to the drug of life, to pharmakon tes zoes (φάρμακον τῆς ζωῆς), and the show says this Zoe is the same figure from the garden, the one who holds the water of life, and that the later Christian talk of holy blood derives from her. The drug, she says, awakens the sleeping, aphupnizei autous (ἀφυπνίζει αὐτούς), raising souls that are shackled and weak. The waves of Hades wash over and press on people, and those souls come out of the graves the way a newborn comes, which the episode reads as the physics of the death-and-rising that Christianity later borrowed.
The last movement turns the document into a song. The Greek is quoted as rise up from Hades, stand out of the tomb, leave the darkness and put on the pneumatic divinity, because the song of the resurrection has gone before and the drug of life has arrived. The show also reads the technique, the techne (τέχνη), behind this, and it says the completed work turns the body itself into a vessel that produces the death-bearing agent. It closes by saying the first Christ corrupted the mystery the way Heracles did, using the bed of the lovers, which is why the boys in the Secret Gospel of Mark fall so instantly in love.
