Video Description
Ammon Hillman performs the experiment promised by the title. Since Greek does not depend on word order, the episode reads the book of Revelation backwards, from omega to alpha, reversing the polarity while keeping every grammatical rule. The opening line landed first is: the grace, the charis (χάρις), of the Lord Jesus is upon all. The episode reads grace not as favor but as a charm that arouses and leads to Aphrodite, and the first words of the reversed book become the seal and the charm: come, Lord Jesus, come quickly.
What emerges reading backwards is the water of Zoe. The episode translates passages in reverse and finds the tree of Zoe, the river of the water of life, and the crystal, krystallon (κρύσταλλον), shining like glass, shown by the angel. From the fleece and the throne, the episode says, the water flows ahead, and this is the culmination of the mystery, not a vision of an end but the water that begins it. The redeemed wash their robes in it, and the ones outside the city are named the dogs, the pharmakoi (φαρμακοί), the sorcerers and the poisoned, rejected from the city and squatting in the tombs.
The definitions close the loop. Jesus is read as the one who medicates, from the verb iaomai (ἰάομαι), to heal, so that the one who foams at the mouth and works his spittle into the clay is practicing his medicine as a Christ, a pharmakeus (φαρμακεύς), the bewitcher and poisoner whose craft is the drug. The key term is narkē (νάρκη), numbness, torpor, the narcosis of the soul, the comfort of the dead, which the episode ties to the day-to-night deadness modern churches call faith. And the closing instruction from the reversed text is its core: whoever is thirsty, come; take the water of life freely.
