Video Description
This episode argues that Judaism and Christianity did not begin as an old religion and a later one. Its claim is that they are coeval, born from the same origin, and that the familiar story of a long Hebrew past followed by a new Christian movement is false. The show uses the washing of the feet as a before and after test, moving from the church painting everyone knows to the history it says has been buried, and it places that question next to the modern war in Gaza.
Ammon Hillman then reads what he calls the real evidence: a magical incantation found in a temple at Heliopolis (Ἡλιούπολις), translated from Egyptian into Greek and dated to the second century BC, around the time the Septuagint (Ἑβδομήκοντα), the Seventy, was first being read. The spell is addressed to the fruit of the garden and gives a drug it says feeds both mortals and immortals, before calling on Iōn (Ἴων), Nyx (Νύξ), Melinoe (Μηλινόη), and Aphrodite (Ἀφροδίτη), here named Kyprogeneia (Κυπρογένεια), the Cyprus-born. The stream calls this the earliest Jewish ritual text, and says it is Greek.
The final claim is about language itself. The text ends in a blessing the stream renders as Baruch atah Adonai, and it argues the words are written in Greek, not Hebrew, inside a document meant to invent Hebrew letters. From there it says ancient Hebrew was built over Greek in the first centuries BC and AD, that the practice it describes ends in hilaria (ἱλαρία), joy, and the myron (μύρον) carried by Mary Magdalene. The episode treats exposing the text as exposing the genocide, making the philology an indictment rather than an endorsement.
