Ammon Hillman builds an entire hour on one book most readers have never opened: the Wisdom of Solomon, written in Greek and tied to Alexandria around the last century before the common era. The series thesis is stated up front, that Judaism as a distinct religion began in that text, by absorbing the older worship of Sophia (Σοφία), personified wisdom. The book calls her a savior, the episode says, and even gives her the titles initiator and initiate, mustis (μύστις), so the feminine figure is read as the bridge between the Greek mystery and the later one-god reform, with a pre-Yaho god named as the lover of the soul, despotes philopsychos (δεσπότης φιλόψυχος), a face the episode identifies with Eros (Ἔρως).
The proof is the vocabulary. The same book lists the pharmakeia (φαρμακεία), the works of drugs, next to teletai anosiai (τελεταὶ ἀνόσιοι), unholy initiations, and later names technophonos teletai (τεκνοφόνος τελεταί), child-killing rites, beside hidden mysteries and wild festival processions. The episode reads those as the old Hebrew practice of burning off mortality, the death and resurrection of the child, together with an oath-bound thiasos (θίασος), a mystery company. The stream also presses the word iobolos (ἰοβόλος), the one who casts venom, as a term that could not exist in Hebrew’s small surviving vocabulary, and notes the book’s command to love dikaiosynē (δικαιοσύνη), justice.
The ending is the larger claim. Judaism, the episode argues, is one face of a much older plural culture: the Hebrew people first worshiped Sophia and a god here called Ion (Ἴων), and the one-god reform shut down the rites, the drugs, and the female voice together. As the title of the whole show suggests, the spark that lit the later monotheism was the moment the tyrant god swallowed wisdom, and the claim is offered as checkable from the Greek rather than as a matter of faith.
