The episode reads Revelation 2 in its Greek, with a close look at the church in Thyatira and the woman the text calls Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. Ammon Hillman translates the charge against her: she teaches the people to porneuein (πορνεύειν), to have sex outside the bounds set for them, and to eat what is offered to the eidola (εἴδωλα), the images. Rather than a moral footnote, the hour presents this as the first-century church still running the old mystery, using drugs and sexual activity to make the prophetic voice come through.

A Byzantine lexicon definition of Kithara shows Aphrodite at the center, and the show says she is the hidden Christ, the same figure the oldest image of a god shows as a woman. Writing about his dissertation, Hillman says a university made him remove the section on recreational drugs, and he spent the rest of his career reading what was cut out: a medical work on satiriasis and gonorrhea, the deep things of Satan spoken in Thyatira, and baptism described as applying a drug that creates the holy virgin. The point pressed is that salvation was never eternal life but the aionic ascent through the rite.

show you them now, but I just spent a couple of days going through Byzantine lexica, Byzantine
dictionaries, if you will, telling me about everything under the sun, but particularly with
respect to the language and where these words came from. They’re big on etymology. Etymology
is a great word where does this thing come from what are its bases so they’re analyzing their
own language so when i come with you to you with a definition you have to understand i’m not just
a classicist right i have experience in these areas that you’re not going to see coming all
