Video Description

Is there a perfect hour to work a spell, a right day to tend the home or steady the finances? In this video, Lyam Christopher explores the old system of planetary days and hours, and the question behind it is far stranger than scheduling. The names of our weekdays still remember the gods: the Sun, the Moon, Saturn, and the old northern gods of war, wisdom, thunder, and love. Beneath the ordinary clock, he says, an ancient rhythm keeps repeating.

The modern mind may call that rhythm arbitrary, and he is sympathetic at first. He names the four quiet demons of our age: purposelessness, meaninglessness, randomness, and efficiency. These, he says, are not neutral facts but moods of despair, ways of passing judgment on the universe and then believing we invented it. The alternative is to proceed as though the world is meaningful, significant, destined, and beautiful, not because we have proved it, but because that generous view lets a person bloom.

Then comes the elegant payoff. If the day begins at sunrise with the hour of its own planet, and the hours cycle onward through Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon, the first hour of each morning falls on the very day named for it. That is why the week is ordered the way it is, and the system turns out to be older than we can trace. His counsel is gentle and practical: treat it as-if true, cultivate the planetary virtues, and do not insist on one exact result. It is a way of living in friendship with the turning sky.

All right it is Sunday night and it is time to talk about planetary days and planetary hours.
So is there a perfect time to do certain types of magic? Do you need to schedule your magical
rituals so that they occur on the correct planetary day and the correct planetary hour?
Or should you basically just follow astrology in terms of the seasons so there’s a season for
everything. Or there are times of day when it’s better to do things. For instance, it’s usually
better to tackle your most novel and challenging task early on in the morning, get that out of the
way. Or maybe even your most challenging task, get that out of the way early in the morning
and then do your more routine task later. So there’s all kinds of ideas about timing and
when to do things, at least when it comes to practicality. But when it comes to magic,
you have to remember that magic is not necessarily about practicality or efficiency. This can be
quite startling to people who want to use it to fix their lives. So is fixing your life
something that involves making it more efficient? So let’s look at this system of planetary days
and planetary hours. So supposedly, if you’re going to do a ritual in regard to something to
do with your home life, taking care of the house, maybe learning how to beautify your home or
something like that, you would be best off doing that on a Monday because Monday is the day of the
moon and the moon governs domestic affairs, pretty much. Family life, you know, taking care of your
significant other, taking care of the household, taking care of the kids, especially for mothers.
Or if you wanted to do, if you wanted to plan some military strategy, you might be best off
doing that on a Tuesday. Or if you wanted to tighten up your budget, it would be best to
plan that new tighter budget on a Saturday, because Saturn governs discipline and debts,
okay? So not only that, but also the supposed magicians from the past, they would say,
not only do you do something on the appropriate planetary day, but you also do it on the
appropriate planetary hour okay so if you wanted to beautify your home you could maybe do the
ritual for that on a Monday but you might do that in the hour of Venus since that’s the planet of
beauty okay or external beauty and or the planet of or you might do it during the planetary hour
of the sun on a Monday sun being the planet of Tifereth which is the sphere it’s the sphere of
beauty on the tree of life all right so you can kind of mix and match these things okay but um
you know the rational mind looks at this system of planetary days and hours and says where’s the
sense in all this it uh it seems arbitrary are we just being superstitious should we even take this
system of planetary days and planetary hours seriously so let’s look at this okay and then
going to delve behind i’m going to delve behind the criticism of the planetary hours system okay
this is an opportunity it’s an opportunity to explore um one of the curses of the modern secular
rational mind okay but we will talk about how the planetary hours work that’ll be a little bonus so
the first confusing thing is that um if you are if you know how manifestation works according to
magic okay so it takes on an astrological pattern the slowest planet is on the outside
of the universe more or less right so near the outside of the universe okay
so outside the universe there’s nothing but pure potentiality formlessness um which is it wants to
be it wants to appear in the world it wants to come into the world and then take on some kind
of form as something eventually okay and in order to do that it begins to filter in and condense
inward and then supposedly then on earth in the very center it takes on a solid form so it’s like
a condensation process and as it condenses down into physical manifestation it has to pass through
these spheres of the planets the slowest one is on the outside and that is the sphere of saturn
okay astrologically speaking okay um and then the uh the the manifestation power filters through
the sphere of Jupiter, through Mars, through the sphere of the Sun, through Venus, Mercury,
and then the Moon. Okay, so in the astrological scheme, yes, Mercury is closer to the Earth
than Venus. Okay, these are basically planets that are being, the slowest one is at the top there,
Saturn and then the fastest one is at the bottom Mercury so that’s that’s kind of how they saw it
okay so the the system of planetary spheres is it’s a map of the condensation process as things
move from pure potentiality in non-existence okay and eventually filter down into actuality
into physical existence okay and because the planets tend to move around and have different
configurations, that tends to tweak the way things appear on Earth. That’s how astrology
supposedly works. And the magicians now supposedly will take advantage of the positions of the
planets at various times. But that’s unusual because the system of planetary days and planetary
hours doesn’t even pay attention to the positions of the planets. It seems to be another system
in addition to astrology okay and so now if you notice Saturn is the outermost then Jupiter is
further in Mars is even further in then we have Sun Venus Mercury Moon and then Earth is in the
center okay so you see as we go down from Saturn to Jupiter to Mars to the Sun to Venus to Mercury
to the Moon that represents the descending power of manifestation as things condense down into
physical existence, okay? What you’ll notice, though, is that the days of the week don’t follow
that order. Why not? It don’t make no sense, right? Okay, so we’re eventually going to explain
how that came about, okay? And now here’s how the planetary hours work. I’m going to go back up and
talk about that for a second. So we have, in case you guys don’t know this, the days of the week are
named after various gods okay or the heavenly bodies okay so uh sunday is actually is named
after the sun surprise surprise okay or after helios the god of the sun or apollo and um
monday is named after the moon it’s moon day okay the goddess luna or celine um or diana or
part of this and uh but we just call it moon day right monday and then as you can see mars uh
tuesday is named after mars wait a second but let’s go further okay wednesday mercury doesn’t
make any sense friday venus okay well oh saturday saturday is named after saturn so the only three
that make sense here are sunday monday and saturday because sunday is named after the sun
uh moon day monday is named after the moon and saturday is named after saturn right um tuesday
is named after mars but um as the days of the week um were invented by anglo-saxon or
proto-english speaking peoples um they substituted the god of war uh tomb or tear to tears day or
Tuesday. So in other words, for Tuesday, it’s Tears Day or Tuesday. Okay, so the day belongs
to the god Tu or Tear. And Wednesday, Mercury for the Germanic peoples was the god Woden or Odin.
Woden, so if you say it really fast, Woden’s Day sounds like Wednesday. So Wednesday is Woden’s
okay which um woden corresponded to the planet mercury pretty much and uh as you can probably
guess uh jupiter that’s the god zeus in the greek pantheon um for the germanic peoples that was
thor because zeus wields lightning and thunder and so does thor so um the sky thundering sky god
right uh so thursday is thursday friday is named after the goddess freya the goddess of love
okay or uh and of course for the romans it was venus okay and for the greeks it was aphrodite
okay so these things still are named after the heavenly bodies or the planets that correspond
to various gods okay so they still retain that memory this is extremely old okay nobody knows
when the seven-day week started. If you really look at time or the cycle of the day that you
experience, there really is no such thing as a Saturday, is there? And it takes a moment to
realize that it’s like there really isn’t any distinction, right? So like we almost think that
Saturday really exists, right? But the interesting thing is that it’s over time, it has been repeated
so much in it’s now used in almost every culture all over the world seven day week named after the
planets uh that it’s become extreme extremely ingrained okay and this is important it’s like
it’s like an archetypal presence now this seven day week the presence of the gods is here and
it’s very old and it’s pressing in on us as a habit that has been established okay now remember
nature is full of all kinds of habits, instincts and patterns, and things that happen over and
over again, okay? This is one of those archetypal patterns that we supposedly can take advantage of.
Okay, more on that later. So what you’ll notice then is that any given day starts with the hour
of that day. So in other words, Sunday starts with the first hour of Sunday is the sun, okay? And
That’s pretty much right when the sun comes over the horizon.
That’s the first hour of the day, okay?
It’s not midnight.
It’s when the sun comes up, okay?
So when the sun comes up, as it peaks over the horizon,
that starts the first hour of the day.
And then the amount of daylight that that day has will be divided in 12 parts, okay?
So if we happen to be at the spring equinox or the fall equinox,
then a um the daylight hours of a day will probably be exactly at 12 pretty much pretty
much at 12 hours okay and the nighttime hours will be almost exactly 12 hours okay but if it
is in the winter time then um the the amount of daylight is still divided into 12 but there’s less
daylight in the winter so that means the planetary hours during the day during winter are shorter
and the planetary hours at night are longer.
There are still 12 planetary hours at night,
but those hours will be longer than the hours that happen during the day.
So you can see that the yellow area above is the daylight
and the blue area below is the nighttime.
And you’ll also notice that the planets,
then as you go from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4,
this is the order of manifestation in other words the the power of the divine is descending
from pure potentiality down to actuality on earth and it must pass through the various spheres to do
that so on sunday you can see it’s it’s that that power is already coming through the sun and it’s
going to descend through the sphere of venus then through the sphere of mercury then through the
sphere of the moon and then to saturn uh no then to moon and then to the earth right and then it
starts over again so and saturn is at the very outer edge and it goes saturn jupiter mars sun
venus mercury moon and then it resets again saturn jupiter mars sun venus mercury moon okay so it
always goes in that order so you have this these cycles of manifestation going through the day
Okay. This system of planetary hours is not like a Renaissance invention. It is actually extremely old. And I’m going to prove that to you in a bit. Okay. It’s not something new at all. Also, the 12-hour day and the 12-month year are extremely old. We don’t know when they were invented. They’ve been with us since before civilization, apparently.
All right. And so we will talk about why the days of the week don’t seem to follow the descending sequence of manifestation, because if they really did follow the descending sequence of manifestation, it would be Saturday, Thursday, Tuesday, Sunday, Friday, Wednesday, and Monday.
that would pretty much be the week, right? And yet that doesn’t happen for some reason. And we’ll
talk about that in a little bit. So looking at a chart like that, you can see it makes things
seem very arbitrary. It’s like, oh, we just take this chart and we follow along. And as God or
somebody up there has decreed that these hours of the day have planetary significance to them.
Seems rather strange, doesn’t it? Like to our rational minds, okay? And I’m not saying that
the planetary hours are real either. Okay. Am I recommending not to use them? No, I’m not doing
that either. Okay. So we’re going to get at what’s behind this automatic criticism of something that
seems so arbitrary. And in order to do that, we can explore this meme. I get a kick out of these
memes. They are, I guess, what they call it, stoicism memes that you sometimes see on the
internet um uh and it usually has some you know woke fragile cry baby cry baby complaining about
the world in this way or that way and offended by um you know meat eaters or something like that
and then the stoke guy comes along and sets them sets them straight you know something like that
um and this is a really important this this was a good one um so the the the fragile cry baby who
who tends to be very sickly because he doesn’t eat a healthy diet because he’s probably eating
all vegan food and stuff like that right um uh looking uh looking at the night sky it makes me
realize how puny and insignificant i am on the cosmic scale wow okay and this is kind of what
we are taught in the modern world too and i always thought it was a bit strange that when people look
up at the sky they say oh i’m so humbled by how small and insignificant humans are in this vast
scheme of the universe and that’s somehow so spiritual i’m like how is that spiritual
sounds sounds somehow um i don’t know uh may basically just say i’m insignificant
wow i am so humbled by that and now i feel better all right so and then this the stoic guy
comes along stoicism is basically experiencing a resurgence right now um and i think the woke
generation is making that entirely too easy um but um so this guy says i’m the result of 14 billion
years of cosmic evolution i am a thermodynamic miracle i am the waking universe looking back at
itself how cool is that okay now the the idea here like is that um well my question to you is
is either of these perspectives correct okay my point is that they are both fictional they are
both made up. They’re both fantasy versions of realities that are superimposed over reality
so that we can feel a certain way, okay? Being a little crybaby and saying, oh, I’m so puny and
insignificant, the reason we do that is because that does serve a purpose for us, okay? There are
things that we do to ourselves that make us unhappy, but they do satisfy us on some level,
Okay. The point here is that these are both not necessarily true versions of the universe, but one of them is healthier. Okay. And one of them is going to help people thrive better. Okay. And conceivably, then that version of reality is going to be more in tune with the way the world actually is.
I can’t really say that much it it works better in regard to human needs and the way the world
as it actually is okay the point is that one of these is healthier and one of them
is helping us thrive better okay so when it comes to magic the what the I the stoic here wins
because he has the more healthy version hopefully of of reality okay now there’s some problems with
his interpretation too, because that is, there’s some hubris in there possibly. So there’s a bit
of a setup for some irony there, which is also possibly going to cause problems. But overall,
you know, his view is more self-affirming, healthier as far as, you know, maintaining a
happier, healthier lifestyle. And so what science tends to teach us, what modernity tends to teach
us um i think i meant to say the four gods of the four gods of modernity didn’t i um the four the
four gods of humanity currently in the modern modern era uh you could say are created by science
okay or created by you know objective thinking and created by secular rationalism or reductionism
and so we look at the universe and we say well it’s just a bunch of uh rocks floating in space
colliding with each other and more balls of gas that have no soul no mind there’s no intelligence
anywhere except in us somehow mysteriously right we seem to be the intelligent ones right
and maybe a few animals some of them have some intelligence um and so everything out there
outside of my brain let’s say is purposeless so the gods of modernity are purposelessness
meaninglessness randomness and efficiency oh okay isn’t efficiency a good thing not necessarily and
so these are these tend to be things that make us sick they hurt self-esteem they’re not skillful
ways of looking at reality not usually okay they can be sometimes for instance the idea of
randomness that’s a useful concept okay but it only goes so far okay and does randomness truly
exist if you look at anything closely enough you’ll notice you cannot find it anywhere okay
and so interesting thing is just so what’s liam saying is liam saying that meaning exists outside
of my head out there in the world uh no i’m not saying that but i’m saying that um you can proceed
as if it does okay because it might and when you do that you get certain results that appear to be
magical. Of course, we knew this, didn’t we? Like you have certain beliefs, and so those beliefs
pay off for you, okay? And when you base your beliefs on purely reductionistic, literalistic
thinking of modernity, okay, those, they tend to make a bleak world picture for you, okay? And they
lead to unhealthy habits, addictions, all kinds of trouble, because now you are out of sorts with
reality, okay? You’re not taking a generous nature with reality, actually, and that’s going to cause
you to suffer. The interesting thing about these views of the universe is that they basically
involve a human being passing judgment on the universe. Major act of hubris, and this is why
these things cause us to suffer. Now, if I see the universe as meaningful, let’s say, as inherently
meaningful is that a judgment sort of but it’s not dismissing the universe as meaningless anymore
it’s basically acknowledging that there’s some kind of meaning there it’s actually a um taking
a generous nature with reality then and saying okay there must be something to this okay and
then suddenly reality treats you better how does that happen it’s almost as though almost as though
there really are gods or archons so i would rather call these the four demons of modernity or
humanity in the modern age right um there are purposelessness meaninglessness randomness
and efficiency these are these are demons of despair if you think about it i call them demons
because they’ve been conditioned into us okay um we define things as meaningless meaningless
mainly so that we can then impose some kind of meaning upon anything and and say it doesn’t
matter whatever i say it is that’s what it is okay and that’s an incredible act of hubris okay
and um it’s kind of like like a native american um might go into a forest and say what are and
see these gigantic towering trees and say oh my god what are these things they must be gods they
have the stately elegance to them they seem to be um lording over the landscape in some kind of
dignified way they’re obviously alive i think they’ve been whispering to each other you know
there’s something going on here that is mysterious. Should I worship them? And then a modern day
industrialist will walk into the same forest and say, oh, lumber, that is nothing but a resource
that I can use to build houses and whatnot, right? So dismissing the inherent intelligence
in nature even dismissing the beauty of it and the elegance of it as inconsequential so that I can
then use it for some kind of agenda okay and that agenda has been conditioned into me by fear and
desire okay so these things these philosophies of purposelessness meaninglessness and randomness
and efficiency they tend to serve a the false god of the ego okay the basically the the personality
that doesn’t actually exist it has no inherent existence this thing that has sort of patched
itself together from all of our trauma and conditioning from over the eons it has arisen
in this form it has no inherent existence really it’s kind of taken it’s kind of taken over
everything it’s not even who you are and these various uh philosophies serve it you could say
the main demon is the ego itself and then these other philosophies are like it’s a little servant
imps and they run around making sure that everybody believes that there’s no purpose here
nothing to see here folks there’s no inherent beauty to anything there’s no meaning except
the meaning you create you can do whatever you want right okay um and then uh everything’s
just random there’s no um and uh and that way now we can impose an agenda of efficiency upon
everything and then pretty much use that for for the furtherance of more more ego so where
is your foundation in the ego no it can’t be because the ego is a fabricated patchwork of
psychological distress patchwork of repeating fantasies or repeating scenarios of trauma that
replay themselves over and over again and pretty much have you conditioned to react a certain way
in this situation in that situation when oh when this happens i do this because of all the horrible
stuff that’s happened to me in the past, right? When this happens, I do this because of all the
wonderful stuff that happened to me in the past, right? And it’s, of course, all that wonderful
stuff and horrible stuff that happened to me in the past is not necessarily in this lifetime.
It’s from previous generations too. This stuff goes on and on, okay? Or maybe even previous
lifetimes if, you know, the soul going from one body to the next is really possible.
so is your foundation in the ego no is it in physical matter okay so that’s what the modern
world would have you believe and then of course everything’s reductionistic you are you are
nothing more than the sum of your parts okay so and we can see that too we can kind of try to
prove that we can try to prove that oh all these parts are interacting to create who you are okay
well that’s kind of how the ego works okay but there’s more to you than that but of course
modernity would try to convince you otherwise you’re nothing but an end product of all of your
experiences there’s nothing else going on it’s all it’s all there is to right here just or you’re
nothing but a conglomeration of all your parts okay well it doesn’t take much to blast that
illusion apart it’s a pretty fragile illusion okay and yet our bodies and our habits have us
exerting a lot of energy to maintain it, to maintain that illusion of an existence that is
founded upon matter or material existence. And so that’s a lot of habit, a whole lifetime of
trying to maintain this idea that I’m nothing but this body, you know, identifying with the body
or with the food you eat or whatever, yeah, physical forces around you. And so that is the
objective reality okay so in other words do is how can your experience be founded upon objective
reality because really what happens when you perceive the world is that there are no objects
out there you have to realize that okay your mind creates objects out of things okay it’s really a
seamless sort of um uh sort of ever evolving ever blossoming blossoming space of manifestation in
which matter comes and goes in various forms. And as that happens, the mind selects things out
and makes objects out of them. And it certainly helps that they kind of hold to some kind of
consistent form, at least for a while. This is the paperweight. And is this really a paperweight?
I’m imposing that meaning upon it. But for all conventional purposes in the conventional world,
the relative world. For now, it’s a paperweight. And so it appears to be an object for a while.
But remember, objects don’t really exist. Paperweights don’t really exist. People don’t
really exist. But it’s convenient to make objects out of things and then interact with them as though
they are what we think they are. Okay, what that thing was I just held in my hand, I don’t really
gnome but it’s very convenient that i can just decide at least for a while that it’s a paperweight
when i free myself from that interpretation i can use it for other things i’ll be much more
creative then too won’t i and so uh viewing this thing as only a paperweight that’s the trap of
literalism somebody told me it’s a paperweight now that’s all it is and i can’t use it for anything
else okay and that would be the trap of literalism where where what you see is what you get okay or
what you’ve been told is what it is that’s literalism okay um which is a big trap in religion
obviously taking the bible literally let’s say this is really the way it happened it happened
exactly the way it said it did you know um but literalism is also a major trap in science
is there really such a thing as potential energy to think about that okay is gravity really a force
that pulls on you? Is there really such a thing? Okay, and if you let go of that, then you can
start thinking like Einstein, you would say, well, gravity is not really a force. Okay, it only
appears that way. And it can be calculated that way. But anyway, all right. Okay. And so when it
comes to literalism, if you fall into the trap of taking things literally, that leads to a false
idea of faith okay so in other words the idea of faith as belief in what i’ve been told okay so i
read the bible and say oh yeah this is okay jesus said this and then that happened okay that’s the
way it was okay and then but of course if you read it kabbalistically there’s all kinds of other
interpretations going on there there’s the four worlds of the kabbalah happening there and
everything like that right so um uh so taking things at face value and saying it really did
happen that way or or if somebody says this is a paperweight and that’s now it’s all that’s all it
is okay and i can’t use it for anything else that would be believing absolutely that this is what
they say it was okay so faith as belief is a problem okay and this is not something the magician
does okay um or if he does it he doesn’t take it that seriously he doesn’t do it for very long
okay faith turn eventually transforms into trust and that is more and and you’ll notice that the
really the truly the more spiritual you know religious people that you encounter are not
their faith is not really about the belief anymore their faith is more like uh they’ll
look at you and say i know i know you have the courage to do the right thing i know it’s in you
somewhere i know you have the the character to do the the the wherewithal to do the right thing
you know they have i have faith in you in that way or um something really bad’s happening in
their life and they say oh i can’t wait to see the good that’s come out it’s going to come out of
this and so trusting the universe to have meaning to have um purpose let’s go back to the these guys
here. So if we want to have some alternative gods for the modern era, purposefulness, you just want
to turn these things around. So in other words, when you look at things around you, we’re going
to say, oh, that has a purpose. There must be a purpose behind that. Can’t see what it is, but
then you have faith that there is some kind of purpose there. It doesn’t mean it’s true, but
looking at it that way can be very therapeutic. And then, of course, you can proceed in all kinds
and directions and try to figure out what that purpose is okay and try to shift things around
and utilize things in different ways to see whether now you can take advantage of what’s
happening okay um meaninglessness would become significance so when something happens it has
rather than say oh that’s it’s just it’s just random it’s just a coincidence well um it’s not
wrong to to call things coincidence but you have to remember you’re basically showing that you have
a belief in randomness and meaninglessness when you do that are there anything are there any such
things as coincidences okay you could never it’s impossible to prove that it seems as if there are
but mainly from a perspective of despair where you’re you just feel like i’m just this object
that’s adrift in a sea of objects i can’t see any meaning and we all seem to be bumping into
each other randomly so that therefore there is no meaning and it’s all random okay uh in place
of randomness we could put destiny okay destiny as the greeks saw it as a um potentiality that
that is sort of aching to be lived okay not fate where that’s like oh the way it’s going to happen
is going to you can’t escape fate right um destiny is more like there’s a potential that wants to
unfold and if you honor that potential then it will start to unfold but it’s going to happen in
in a sort of squishy way okay there’s a lot lots of wiggle room when it comes to destiny okay
and also randomness would turn into karma okay which is a very important concept of course in
in magic because you know basically practical magic is really practice of karma yoga okay but
the way most people practice magic is it’s basically karma yoga and efficiency now this
this is a good one efficiency would become beauty or elegance i think einstein is noted for um
saying that i must have made a mistake somewhere amidst my theories of relativity and things like
that because he says this is getting too hard it’s not elegant anymore i think i made a mistake
Okay, so he had his genius pretty much came largely from his ability to experience beauty, okay, over efficiency.
Okay, so beauty being more, beauty being the larger category.
Efficiency is really a subcategory of beauty, if you think about it.
Because when things are beautiful, they tend to be efficient, but in a mysterious way, in a way that we can’t necessarily see.
okay and we could learn a lot about nature if we looked at it in terms of beauty rather than in
terms of efficiency behind me i have a guitar up against the wall back here it’s a beautiful
instrument but i guess i should throw it away right because it’s perfectly useless i don’t
make money off of it by playing it it’s just beautiful that all that’s all right so therefore
i should get rid of it there’s nothing efficient about it at all in fact it’s a drain on my finances
whenever i have to put strings on it all right so the magi of old you know i thought it was
alifas levy who who coined this term uh saying that students of magic the um the main maxim or
rule for magicians is to know to dare to will it’s very european right and keep silent okay
what’s with this keep silent thing okay this is a well to my mind okay this this has a different
meaning to somebody in the outer order of the golden dawn golden dawn system of magic we
engage in our studies and our daily ritual and we don’t talk about it okay because the the the
reality or the the modernity with its meaninglessness purposelessness randomness
and efficiency is constantly circling around the outsides of our magic circle attempting to
rope us back in to the world of suffering okay to the world into the world of efficiency and
meaninglessness and randomness and insignificance right um and so if you if you share your um
alternative uh spirits of meaningfulness and signi and significance and destiny and beauty if you talk
about these things openly they’re easily criticized and you can be sucked right back into the
conditioning of suffering that will have you suffering like everybody else around you who’s
now trying to be efficient and trying to find some footing in a meaningless random existence
it’s an existentialism right an interesting thing too existentialism um i would say the
philosophy of existentialism was a nice try but it suffers majorly from hubris because it basically
looks at the face of the world and says there’s no meaning here okay but then they throw up their
hands and say but that’s wonderful because now i can just impose whatever meaning i want upon the
world or find it find some kind of meaning in it myself I can do it myself okay um major hubris
there to assume that there’s no beauty and no meaning out there in the world there’s only the
beauty and meaning that you see that you impose upon the world okay think about this okay and
that whole idea of beauty is in the eye of the beholder no beauty is out there in the world
What is it? What is it? The one of the characters in the novel, The Color Purple, says, I think it pisses God off when somebody walks by the color purple and doesn’t doesn’t appreciate it, doesn’t pay attention.
You know, yeah, there’s beauty all over the place out there. It’s not just in your head.
What a horrifying notion. What a psychopathic notion to say that, oh, it’s just in here.
therefore i don’t have to feel anything and there’s no connection between me and that over
there it’s just that beauty is just a fantasy invented in my head okay and therefore if i
destroy that object out there and turn it into kindling for my fire doesn’t it doesn’t really
matter because beauty doesn’t the beauty exists in here in my pure mind right so i can destroy
objects of beauty and that’s perfectly fine what an amazing act of hubris that would be and of
course remember the greeks um said that the the cardinal sin of humans and the reason why they’re
punished severely is for acts of hubris and so destroying an object of beauty would really piss
off aphrodite and you probably would get some kind of horrible venereal disease or something i don’t
know like i wonder what she would do to you right um but anyway um but engaging in hubris it’s very
clear, we at least know this, it causes suffering. Okay, so when we decide to look at the world as
though there really is meaning out there and beauty out there, instead of just in our pure
little minds, right, as though there is such a thing as a pure mind, mind certainly isn’t pure.
Then suddenly the world becomes numinous again, which it always was to begin with until modernity
sucked the soul out of the world and crammed it inside your brain. Okay, and of course, then when
you allow that beauty then to exist out there in the world again everything starts to glow and when
you see meaning out there instead of just the meaning that you invent in your head out of
hubris then the world begins to shine with some kind of light this is part of the enlightenment
experience is it not to get out get out of your damn head start experiencing the world with your
heart the catholics call that numinosity they call it sacramental vision okay but if if you are
religious though that can be a little dangerous because then you see everything in terms of
only one mythology and that is the mythology of you know the bible uh the mythology of jesus
mostly the new testament when it comes to sacramental vision okay and um which is which
is cool but of course the magician has lots of different mythologies and he can he can look at
the world as potentially meaningful in all kinds of ways not just you know one religion and everybody
has to hang on the cross, right? There are other ways of being crucified, I guess, right? There
are other kinds of ways of becoming enlightened other than suffering, okay? But sacramental
vision is a beautiful example of the ability to see beauty and meaning once again out there in
the world, instead of assuming that they’re invented inside your brain, okay? Let’s see if I
Okay, so the affairs in the Greek mythology, you know, the gods, Saturn and Mars and Jupiter, Mercury, Venus and Luna or Selene,
the ceremonial magic and astrology has pretty much declared that these seven gods are pretty much the ones who are governing
the human-like experience of the universe okay and if you remember from the last video
there were the raw forces of nature which were all chaotic and crazy and then the gods grew up
out of those sort of evolved out of those and the gods were more human-like and established
a more calm relatively peaceful world where where humans could then thrive and experience
various dramas and make meaning out of those dramas you know like and so the world that we
currently live in is supposedly ruled by these planetary gods let’s say the and this is the way
we we proceed in ceremonial magic okay and the nice thing about these gods is that they tend to
be very friendly to human concerns okay and one thing people notice when they do magic is that
they start out doing the lesser banishing ritual, the pentagram, and that’s basically
just kind of pushing the elemental forces out there. Okay, so things are kind of impersonal,
maybe. And then when they start to do the hexagram ritual, which involves the planetary energies,
though, notice these are more, this more has to do with banishing and invoking the various
social forces, or human interaction forces, human personality forces. Okay, so these planetary
gods are, they tend to be very human friendly. I’m not sure they’re that friendly, but they’re
very concerned with the human-like experience of the universe, okay? And they are very quick to
reward and punish. If you are in harmony with your station in the cosmos and you don’t have
hubris, things will go well for you, okay? But if you become too much infested with modernity and
you start to assume that all beauty exists only in your mind and there’s no beauty out there in
the world, then one of those gods or goddesses is going to come along and say, uh-oh, time to make
you suffer until you learn a lesson and get back in line and let me, the goddess Venus, be the one
who decides what’s beautiful. You don’t have the right to decide. Okay. So when it comes to
working with systems of magic, what you’ll notice is that this manifestation process,
it kind of comes down through these planetary powers and planetary faculties. Okay. But in
order to manifest things in your life, you have to have a generous nature with those planetary
powers and basically say, okay, you’re real. Okay, we’re going to proceed as if you are real
so that now I can build this scheme of manifestation and then begin to experience
what it’s like to manifest a charmed life that is in harmony with the cosmos. I will learn to not
commit the sin of hubris. I will learn to act at the appropriate times and in harmony with
everything. And I’m going to do this in a way just to see what will happen. So it’s not
necessarily up. It’s not necessarily like the magician is
pious and simply believes and no, he basically adopts a system
to see whether it will work. Okay. And notice how the meme I
showed you guys at the beginning of this video. There was the one
guy looking at the universe saying I’m insignificant. I’m so
puny in the face of the vast cosmos, right? And the other one
was saying I am a wonder of evolution. And neither of those
perspectives was necessarily correct. But one of those perspectives was working much better
than the other one. It’s inherently more healthy. So whether or not it’s accurate is not necessarily
the point. And this is a really difficult thing to get across to people who have been conditioned
by modernity and by a scientistic view of the universe. So adopting a system of planetary
days and planetary hours is not necessarily factually accurate, but it might very well
be much healthier and help you manifest health and abundance and a charmed existence
in harmony with the cosmos. It doesn’t matter whether it’s astronomically accurate. Is it
soulful? Does it correspond to the soul and its needs and the inner levels of, you know,
inner layers of the soul or the aura or whatever it is, right? The four worlds of Kabbalah,
things like that. Do all these things now work together? Do you have a, do you have a schema
set up that is very, that takes a generous nature with the universe and sees or attempts to see
order okay and basically says i know there’s order out there and i have a system to try to
interpret it right but then um remember when you have a system of planetary days and planetary
hours it doesn’t mean it’s gospel truth you just proceed as if it’s true to see what will happen
all right so we go back to the system of planetary days and planetary hours what you’ll notice is
that the system is actually quite elegant okay so it kind of kind of respects the principle of
beauty is it efficient remember um nobody’s really happy with pure efficiency now if something’s
beautiful and efficient that’s nice okay and remember efficiency is really more of an offshoot
of beauty anyway beauty is the bigger um enchilada basically all right so um the question is why
don’t the days of the week proceed according to the descending layers of manifestation like it
should be saturday and then it should be thursday because it goes um because the the as the power
descends from on high it goes through saturn and through jupiter and then through mars right um
which would be saturday thursday tuesday that’s not the way the week works right but you’ll notice
that there is a method to the madness here so if you look at the planetary hours the first hour
of each day this would be right right after sunrise okay uh corresponds to that day so the
day gets kicked off with the hour of its god essentially or if it’s or its heavenly body right
so sunday begins with the hour of the sun naturally and then things begin to cycle through
goes sun venus mercury moon saturn jupiter march sun venus mercury moons saturn jupiter march on
and on all the way down to the bottom there too so on through the night we go through um just
before sunrise is the hour of mercury and below mercury in in the order of manifestation is the
moon so you notice that it just keeps going from the 24th hour of sunday to the first hour of
monday cycle continues so i’m going to go up to sunday okay i’m looking at sunday and we have the
cycle of manifestation the 19th hour of sunday is saturn okay so from that point down it goes
saturn jupiter mars sun venus mercury and then the moon it appears at the top on monday and notice
how it continues the same cycle again saturn jupiter mars sun venus mercury moon saturn jupiter
mars sun venus mercury moon all the way down to the bottom of monday it ends on jupiter and after
jupiter comes mars and that’s the first hour of tuesday tuesday being the day of mars aha this
is the reason why the days of the week are named in that order so the system of planetary hours
is older than any other system that we know of because the days of the week the way they
currently exist were apparently built upon the system of planetary hours so this is a very old
system. Is it literally true? Not necessarily. But remember, when you adopt systems like this,
you now are proceeding as though there is meaning out there. You are taking a generous nature with
the universe, assuming that there’s an order there, and then you’re proceeding as though
it’s real, as if it’s real, even though you don’t know whether it is or not, right?
Just to see what will happen. So when you adopt these various systems that take a generous
nature with the universe startling and amazing things can start to happen you start to experience
more meaningfulness more beauty okay you you are able to manifest your destiny more than other
people apparently can whether for good or ill okay all right so i was my hope in this video was to
blast apart the modernistic, jaded viewpoint that criticizes magic as arbitrary, as superstitious.
I would say that the beliefs in randomness and meaninglessness and purposelessness are
superstitions as well. Those aren’t real either. And so all we’re left with is all kinds of systems
that we can impose upon the world, none of them are inherently real, but which ones can we use
to thrive better, okay? And the ones that worship meaninglessness, randomness, and efficiency
do not work well for us, usually, okay? It would be much better for us to worship beauty
and meaningfulness and significance among other things among other virtues interesting thing
about magic is that um i’ve already talked about this a bit like kind of black magic does sort of
exist and it really consists of trying to get exactly this particular thing okay it’s okay to
visualize specific specific results as long as you can let go of those results um but but my point
is the only thing you really have to do is start cultivating these planetary virtues okay and being
aware of the planetary vices, you know, and avoid hubris. And things begin to manifest without you
trying to make, you know, a particular ritual for a particular outcome. I’m going to do a car ritual
now. No, you don’t have to do any of that. You can cultivate the various planetary virtues.
Okay. And occasionally, yes, you can do some specific work, but you have to avoid lusting
for results okay or avoid thinking above your station you’re not really a god right you’re just
acting in harmony with the forces that you um with the meanings that you perceive happening around
you okay well i hope this makes sense uh we’ll see if i catch any heat for being um for seeming
to be very superstitious all right well until until next time
