Video Description
The Prophet Wars open by redefining a familiar figure. In this reading, John the Baptist is not the man in the desert but a prodromos (πρόδρομος), an advance guard and mounted skirmisher, the front line for the son of God. The text praising him is an encomium (ἐγκώμιον), a Greek song of victory sung in the komos, and Ammon Hillman keeps the promise to translate rather than preach, pulling the words straight from the encomium.
What the prophet uses, the text says, is a pneumatic lyre, lyra pneumatike (λύρα πνευματική), the strings of spirit, and the trumpet of war, the Bacchic shout that guides the cosmos. The show reads the catalog as a war report: prophets destroy the images of idols, break down the temples and the groves where the fleece hangs, hunt polytheism, and announce the one all-ruler. They shame the king who steps over the legal limit. On the other side is the cult that guards the grove and the drakaina as queen, and the show says the prophet’s whole goal is to destroy these Bacchic choruses.
The last stretch is the vocabulary of death and the antidote.
