The single text for the night is a letter from Plutarch, a priest at Delphi, written to Clea, the Pythia. Reading from it, Ammon Hillman presents Isis as being called the first of the Muses, and shows the two ways the old tradition said she came to be. One says she is the daughter of Hermes, the discoverer of grammar and music, while the other says she is the daughter of Prometheus, the one who carries sophia (σοφία), wisdom, and pronoia (πρόνοια), foresight. In either telling, the goddess is the figure through whom language and music enter the world.
Then the writing turns to the follower of Isis, the hierophoros (ἱεροφόρος), the one who carries the sacred things. The text says that person must bear the holy logos, the hieros logos (ἱερὸς λόγος), in truth and in justice, after the soul has been cleaned of deisidaimonia (δεισιδαιμονία), superstition, and of polupragmosune (πολυπραγμοσύνη), the overworking of the text. The show pauses on that last word and reads it as a warning against theology, the habit of overreading scripture past what the language will actually bear.
The final move ties the whole list together through the word amen. The hour claims that when a person says amen, they are not speaking Hebrew but following a Greek privative with its root manan, and that the word calls the invisible god forward. The Greek Magical Papyri are pulled up to show the seven vowel notes as music, and the initiate christs his opsis (ὄψις), his eyes, with a mysterion (μυστήριον) that the episode says is a plant and a drug. The close of the night is the claim that the letter of Plutarch, written in the sixties, is the older record standing behind the language the New Testament would later use.
