Video Description
The Enochian system is often called the crown of the Golden Dawn, a powerful capstone that some students regard as the highest and most intimidating part of the work. But not everyone wants that crown, and in this technical video Lyam Christopher offers a way to politely set it aside. The message is encouraging: you can remove Enochian magic from the Golden Dawn and still have a whole, workable system beneath it.
He explains why the caution exists. Enochian magic carries a dark reputation partly because of the old Book of Enoch and its fallen angels, and partly because it tends to speed up every lesson a person has been avoiding. A working for wealth may wake up that person’s oldest worries about poverty all at once. Kabbalistic angels, by contrast, move more gently. For a student who wants the slow, patient path, it is possible to skip the elemental tablets, the tablet of spirit, and the Enochian words of power, and the day-by-day training in the Kabbalah, Magic & the Great Work of Self Transformation still stands.
In place of the old Enochian syllables, the text offers familiar Hebrew names built from the Tetragrammaton and the letter Shin descended into it, yielding the active name Yehovah-Shah and the peaceful form Yehoshua. These are vibrated at the same points and still summon spirit into the circle without the fiercer machinery. The lesson closes with a generous bonus: with nothing more than the pentagram and hexagram, the student can keep invoking the zodiac, the planets, and even the crown beyond them. It is a calm reassurance that the deeper structure of magic does not depend on its most famous ornament.

All right, it’s Sunday. Let’s see if I can keep producing these videos every week on Sunday. So far, so good.
And this week we are talking about the magic practiced without the Enochian system.
A number of people have contacted me concerned about Enochian.
They would like to do the, you know, Golden Dawn magic the way it’s introduced in the Kabbalah magic book.
But the Kabbalah magic book does introduce the Golden Dawn system as though it’s preparing you to use.
Enochian system of magic and well for people in the Golden Dawn the Enochian
system was considered the capstone of the the magical system and even if you
don’t plan on using Enochian magic it’s still very useful to study it the way
it’s laid out in the Kabbalah magic book okay and I’ll tell you why in just a bit
it’s very useful even if you’re not going to use it but the Enochian system
has a somewhat sinister reputation for a couple of reasons one of those reasons
is the apocryphal book of Enoch and supposedly the Enochian spirits that you
contact with the Enochian system of magic are the same spirits as the angels
mentioned in the book of Enoch who sort of fell from heaven and then you know
felt or descended from heaven and became corrupted and then had children with human women and those
children were monsters or giants or you know um overly prideful overly power overpowered human
beings who caused a lot of trouble on the planet and supposedly the uh the god had to introduce
the flood to wipe them out, along with most of humanity. That’s one of the reasons Enochian has
a sinister reputation, okay? Another reason why is, I think, more legitimate, and that is
that when you work with Enochian magic, it tends to stir up trouble, okay? It’s mainly because
any type of magic that you use to try to get some result in your life, it’s going to get you to
engage with the karma that you have that’s pretty much associated with the thing that you’re going
for the thing you’re trying to get and if you’re not clear enough to uh to manifest your heart’s
desire um what you end up manifesting is a lot of trouble that’s centered around your heart’s desire
yeah so if you’re doing a ritual that involves wealth a lot of the karmic issues you have about
wealth will come up okay and of course some of the issues in regard to wealth are poverty so
if you have some harsh lessons to learn in regard to getting wealthy um the enochian system is going
to speed up the the speed at which you learn those lessons okay so and enochian magic can be somewhat
unforgiving in that way it’s gonna hit you over the head with a harsh lesson whether you like it
it or not all right now if you work magic that is kabbalistic working with kabbalistic spirits
and kabbalistic archangels and angels uh the archangels and angels tend to uh be much kinder
they’re not going they’re not going to give you much more than you can handle all right so uh
so working with kabbalah can be much more gentle and give you um so even though you can’t if you
have a lot of karmic issues around something and you can’t you’re having trouble manifesting because
of that um the kabbalistic system will help you work through that in a gradual sort of way instead
of sort of clobber you over the head all at once with your karma all right so uh if you would like
to remove the enochian system from the kabbalah magic book and you just want to practice the
kabbalistic aspects of the system, I’m creating this video to show you how to do them. And if
you are practicing golden dawn magic and you would like to remove the Enochian from some of
its rituals, that’s what I’m going to show you here. Okay. The main thing that the Kabbalah
magic book introduces you to in the Enochian system is this system of tablets here. These
the four terrestrial watchtowers uh each of the four tablets that are at the top there
each of them corresponds to one of the four elements there’s air water earth and fire there
and that smaller tablet at the bottom is the tablet of union or the tablet of spirit okay and
so as you go through the grade system in the kabbalah magic book let’s say you’re in if you’re
in the earth grade you’re going to have a project in the earth grade where you create one of these
earth tablets you reproduce it in black and white only and you so you begin to introduce yourself
to these these enochian tablets okay um so the first thing to do if you want to remove enochian
from that golden dawn system of initiation you simply go through the elemental grades and remove
the projects that require you to create these tablets okay and the there’s also a grade called
the portal the portal grade uh that requires you to create the tablet of spirit okay which is that
that tablet at the bottom the tablet of union you would also remove that project from the grade work
also in the portal grade there is a an assignment that uh has you working with a a bunch of squares
and those squares look sort of like this all right so um and the letters are removed um and
you are supposed to plug in the correspondences of the zodiac the planets and the elements into
these various squares okay and that’s done in the portal grade it’s a very powerful exercise
and it’s the reason why the uh the eunuchian system was considered the capstone of the golden
dawn system it’s because it puts together all of the work that you’ve done in the elemental
grades and unifies it into one system okay let’s say if you if you view the four elements as the
sides of an egyptian pyramid okay there’s four l four visible sides of a an egyptian pyramid
each one of those sides is one of the four elements air earth fire water okay
um spirit would be the capstone of the the peer of the pyramid then okay the capstone of the
pyramid would be the the secret fifth element or the essence of all the elements which is
spirit um the way that the enochian system um put that together in this schema right here
was that the um the divine names in that um exarep hekoma nanuta bitom those were distributed
um in that sort of white cross that negative space between all of the four elements there
and so those words of spirit were considered as like flowing outward from the center and these
are like the four rivers of paradise okay uh if you’re familiar with um genesis and the
old testament okay so um this is also a glyph of the heavenly jerusalem okay which is sort of like
a city plan built on according to paradise with four rivers flowing out from the center okay
and so you can see that in the portal grade you’re putting all of the correspondences that
you’ve learned into some kind of unified system which is the golden dawn system of elemental
tablets okay the enochian system a very useful exercise to do it does amazing things to your mind
even if you don’t plan on using the Enochian system, but you can simply remove that exercise.
So in the portal grade, where you are required to plug in the astrological correspondences
and the elemental correspondences into that grid of squares, you can simply remove that assignment
to remove Enochian from that grade. Also in the portal grade, there is a ritual called
the rose cross ritual and the uh the rose cross introduces the analysis of the key word the
analysis of the of a key word is something that you have been practicing in all four of the
elemental grades but in the portal grade it gets a revision okay uh and that revision has some
enochian words of power in it it has these enochian words those enochian words can simply
be removed from the ritual it’s as simple as that just cross them out don’t use them all right then
also in the portal grade there is a ritual called the supreme invoking ritual of the pentagram
that also has eunuchian words of power in it which can be removed and replaced with
kabbalistic names all right um and by by then you probably should be able to figure it out like
which names you could actually plug in in place of the enochian ones but i’m going to tell you
just in case um so in the supreme invoking ritual the pentagram a new pentagram is introduced and
that is the pentagram of spirit but there are two of them okay so normally when you invoke one of
the elements you draw a line towards that point of the pentagram but for spirit we don’t do that
spirit is the topmost point and as you can see when we invoke spirit we invoke an active form
which is that top pentagram and a passive form foot form which is that bottom pentagram you
might want to consider these sort of like the wings of the elements there’s two gotta have
two wings right in order to fly up to the spirit something like that uh and the examples given here
are the when you invoke spirit in the south you use bitom and ehye so bitom is an enochian word
which we’re going to change okay and then if you were facing west um hekoma is uh an enochian word
okay and that we’re also going to replace the the two divine names ehye and agala those are
hebrew those are kabbalistic those can remain okay so what we’re going to replace are
bitom and hekoma okay there’s also um and uh nanuta which we would also replace um from the
from the east and from the north and but it’s quite easy to do that okay uh but when we’re
invoking spirit uh what kabbalistic names can we use okay well we already know that they are
it’s the pentagrammaton okay so um as you probably already know the tetragrammaton
tetra means four in greek uh it means tetragrammaton means four letter name so the
four letter name of god is yod hey vow hey it’s from it’s from right to left okay uh that so the
that name up top which is the four letters yod hey vow hey um the standard uh anglicized
pronunciation of that is Jehovah, and sometimes it’s pronounced Yahovah or Yahovoh. The original
pronunciation of that has supposedly been lost, and it was a secret. In other words, no human,
except for the high priest of the Hebrews, was permitted to speak the name of God. There’s a
rumor that the actual pronunciation of that is Yah-oh, which is actually feasible. But we don’t
really know what the original pronunciation was. Now, when the Hebrews were wandering through
the desert with the tabernacle, hopefully you’ve read the Old Testament, those were very harsh
times. And the Old Testament is a harsh book with harsh laws and harsh penalties and people being
stoned to death and lots of rules. And it’s kind of odd, the New Testament comes along and it’s
all about love and forgiveness and redemption, very different. And so during the Renaissance
times in Italy, during the Italian Renaissance, the hermetic magicians who were practicing then
were using Kabbalah, and they discovered that, oh, the name Jesus in Hebrew is Yehoshua.
that is the tetragrammaton with one extra letter added to it and so that name you see down at the
bottom there from right to left is yod hey shin vow hey yaheshua which is anglicized as jesus
okay or joshua actually also and so the the rationale was that well you know um if you just
have the four elements, that’s the external nature of God, which can be very harsh. It’s
like you’re out in the cold and you’re being sort of beaten up by the four elements. You’re just
kind of out in the external world and you don’t know what’s going on. And supposedly with the
New Testament, Jesus comes along and redeems all of that. He redeems the four elements.
So spirit descends into matter. So, you know, God becomes man. And so we have that symbolized by
The letter Shin, representing spirit, descending down into the midst of the Tetragrammaton,
which creates the Pentagrammaton.
And the Golden Dawn used that as well.
Remember, we’re not using kosher Kabbalah here.
We’re using the Kabbalah that was used by Renaissance magicians.
Okay.
And so it’s sort of a Christianized Kabbalah as well.
Okay.
And the inner order of the Golden Dawn is largely Christian in symbolism.
Okay, mainly because of that redemptive power that unifies and redeems the four elements.
Okay, that’s why, as you can see now, once you are done with the four elemental grades,
you enter another grade that puts them all together with that capstone of the Enochian system.
Okay, but you don’t need the Enochian system to do that.
you have yeshua the pentagrammaton that sort of does that now there are two forms of the
pentagrammaton only one of them is given here and that’s the passive form yeshua jesus okay
that’s the passive form there’s also an active form and if you look at let me see yeah here we
go i’m going to back up again for just for a second so if you notice that the pentagram there
if you read the letters around the pentagram counterclockwise, it’s Yeh-Heh-Shu-Wa. That’s
the passive form of the pentagrammaton. When you read them the other way around,
you start at the fire point, but then you go clockwise, it’s Yeh-Ho-Va-Sha. It’s Yud-Heh-Vao-Shin-Heh.
That’s the active form of the pentagrammaton.
So you have a passive name for spirit and an active name for spirit.
And those take these two forms then.
The passive form is pretty much Jesus or Yehoshua.
And then the active form is Yehovah-Shah.
And these are the Hebrew names that you would use to replace the Enochian ones.
And so those Enochian pentagrams, instead of Bitom Eheyeh and Hekomah Agalah, you would simply say Yehovah Sha Eheyeh and Yehoshua Agalah.
Okay, you’d be vibrating these as you draw them.
okay and um notice how uh this top most pentagram is done in the south in the quarter of fire
and the bottom one the hekoma that’s done in the west for water okay there are also
pentagrams drawn in the east and the north and those have the um exarpe
uh and and the other name for earth from the tablet of union okay uh we wouldn’t use those so
So, er, we would use the active invoking pentagram of spirit, which would simply be Yehovah
Shah, and for earth, we would use the passive pentagram, where we would use Yehoshua.
I want to talk about that a little bit more here.
Also, in ritual up until that point, the student has only been circumambulating, walking around
the circle, clockwise.
along with the sun, okay? So we always walk in one’s ritual space, if it’s large enough. We
always walk clockwise, okay? It’s also called sunwise, because the sun in the northern hemisphere
goes around us in a clockwise fashion, okay? And we avoid walking counterclockwise, okay?
That’s because we want to go with the flow of reality, with the manifesting power of spirit,
okay if supposedly if you go counterclockwise you’re working against the manifesting power
of spirit all right uh and so supposedly the student doesn’t know how to walk counterclockwise
yet okay um without uh being a sort of i don’t know sacrilegious or something like that um
well the thing is though when you walk um counterclockwise it’s also called widdershins
um that’s a you’re going against the sun but what you really should be visualizing there is that
you’re simply dissolving that momentum of the clockwise force that you’ve been building up
for a particular ritual okay so you’re not really trying to create a um a counterclockwise vortex
you’re simply dissolving whatever um whatever vortex you created that was clockwise for that
particular ritual okay so once you reach the grades of adeptship then you can start supposedly
you know how to circumambulate counterclockwise simply as a means of dissolving a force that
you’ve already um invoked so now um the reason i’m saying this is because um when you draw um
something when here when so when you draw uh a circle that is clockwise it’s yehovah shah
which is the active name of spirit okay so when you’re manifesting something it’s Yehovah shah
when you are then resolving it back into perfect peace in other words just dissipating it it’s
Yehoshua okay so um Yehovah shah is more active and you can see that let me see here the act in
the active form of the pentagrammaton the the letter shin has descended down lower so it’s
more manifest it’s between the um the level of yatsira and the level of asia it’s between the
element of air and the element of earth okay very close to physical manifestation so it’s kind of
sticking out poking the world okay or causing trouble or stirring things up in the world okay
um and when you um when it’s when you use the passive name it’s it retreats back up into
unmanifestation or partially into unmanifestation it goes back up into the midst of the divine name
okay that’s kind of how to look at it so um Yehovah Shah is the active form of spirit
invocation and Yehoshua is the passive form um okay and so um they both invoke spirit but one
is sort of an active form which is um dynamic it gets things moving and the other one is more of a
descent of the letter shin into the midst of the elements to make them harmonious and peaceful
and sort of have them sit around and do nothing all right yes uh yahovasha is active and yaheshua
is passive hope that helps you can see now once you do this you can remove the enochian names of
power and you don’t have to deal with the enochian system at all and you’re still going to have a
pretty cool system of initiation working for you once you reach adept ship you can you might also
want to invoke the zodiacal forces the forces of the zodiac for instance no gemini or aries
sagittarius pisces okay each of the signs of the zodiac is elemental in nature for instance
gemini is air aries is fire pisces is water okay and uh also in the golden dawn when you invoke
the zodiacal forces there are some eunuchian names of power you don’t need to use those
eunuchian names okay so here’s an example here so if you want to invoke the um zodiacal force
of Sagittarius, you would use the Enochian name Ares Sal, and then you would use the permutation
of the Tetragrammaton, Vau Yud He He. That’s simply the Tetragrammaton shuffled. The Tetragrammaton
takes 12 different forms. There’s 12 different permutations of the Tetragrammaton, and there’s
one permutation of the Tetragrammaton per each sign of the zodiac, or per each of the 12 tribes
of israel okay um so when we want to invoke one of the zodiacal signs we need to come up with
a kabbalistic word of power to use in place of that um a nokian name that is standardly given
in the golden dawn um that should be pretty obvious what that is because all you need is the
name that the divine name that governs the element in this case sagittarius is a fire sign
so all you need to use is the divine name that governs fire so we’d use yahovah tzabaoth
which you use in the fire grade okay and you would still use that same permutation of the
tetragrammaton okay and um with that being said um this is kind of a bonus here you can also you
don’t necessarily need to use the pentagram to invoke a zodiacal power like sagittarius you
You could also use the hexagram because each of the signs of the zodiac is ruled by one
of the planets, all right?
So Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, so you could use a Jupiter hexagram also to invoke
Sagittarius, and you would use the flashing colors of Sagittarius, which I’m not going
to go into, okay?
But once again, once you’ve been through the entire Outer Order curriculum, you’ve got
everything you need.
you’ve been through all the different colors so you know what colors to use
you know what sigils to use and the only thing I’ve done in this
particular video is to help you remove any of the
Enochian aspects of the system so that you can
practice if you want a purely Kabbalistic
system of magic all right and one more thing
so bonus number two what you might notice is that
once you are done with the golden dawn system you have a means to invoke each of the planetary
powers and all the spirits associated with each of the planets but what about above the planets
on the tree of life like above saturn you also have hakmah and kether okay saturn corresponds
to bina but then beyond that we have hakmah which is the wheel of the zodiac and then we have the
Kether itself, which is the crown of creation or the primum mobile, which is sort of pure spirit,
right? Well, you can use the hexagram also to invoke both Chokmah and Kether. You would simply
use the invoking hexagram of Saturn, but you would, instead of using divine names, you would
use Ararita, but instead of using the divine name associated with Saturn, you would use the divine
name associated with Chokmah or with Kether. So you would use Ararita, and the color of the
hexagram would be the color of the sphere of Chokmah or Kether, and the divine name, and you
have to come up with a sigil though for Chokmah and for Kether, which I’m not going to give you
here okay i’ve come up i’ve come up with sigils of my own but um there are sigils given in the
golden dawn textbook uh but which you could use or come up with your own right uh but just so you
know you don’t need to have other types of figures all you really need is the pentagram and the
hexagram to invoke various forces you don’t need the septagram or octagram okay all right well i
know that was a very technical video. That’s for people who are really into the technical aspects
of magic. All right. I hope it was helpful. And I think it’s perfectly feasible for someone to
remove the Enochian aspects of the Kabbalah magic curriculum and do just fine. You would do just
fine. All right. Until next time.
