Ammon Hillman calls this the agenda of Jesus and his followers, and leads with a story from the Acts of Thomas about a boy who murders a girl. A young man, a neaniskos (νεανίσκος), takes the Eucharist into his own mouth without having been initiated, and both of his arms go numb, so that he cannot even raise his hands to his face. The episode says the Eucharist is a heavy drug, the power of which the Greek word calls gospel, and that this is what happens when a person touches the drug apart from the cult process the apostles were trained in.
The boy confesses to Thomas that he fell in love with a woman outside the city who loved him back, and that he tried to bring her into the Christian politeia (πολιτεία), the group’s own society, after hearing that anyone who enters a polluted or adulterous union cannot have aionic life. The episode recites the prohibition: whoever mixes in fornication is cut off from that life, so the demons must be cast out to reach it. The girl refuses, and the boy kills her rather than watch her fall outside the cult. The second story is the woman tormented five years by a sex demon, who was approached at the baths by a disheveled man speaking in a whisper, exactly the kind of assault the episode says the apostles claimed to cure.
The rite at the end of the episode lays out the sex claim. The woman asks for the seal so the demon never returns, and Thomas draws her close and seals her, then sets out a table, a stool, and a linen cloth with the bread of the eulogy. The episode translates the apostolic invocation aloud as a call into koinonia (κοινωνία), which he insists means sexual union, not fellowship, and closes on the summons to the sacred dove, hē hiera peristerā (ἡ ἱερὰ περιστερά), which he reads as Aphrodite being called into a rite with an apostle. Along the way he also corrects the idea that Koine is a separate language, calling it instead the commonization, the smoothing out, of the Greek itself.
