This stream is a direct answer to one question the host Danny Jones put to the channel: who is the devil? The reply begins with Philo of Alexandria. Philo wrote a whole book about the giants, and the stream’s claim is that he never reaches for a Hebrew word and never names them Nephalim. In Philo, the giants are people — anthropoi onomastoi (ἄνθρωποι ὀνομαστοί), the named and respected ones, the people who brought the arts and pushed society forward.
Then Ammon Hillman opens the Greek Apocalypse of Moses, a text from right around the turn of the first century. In it the devil makes Eve swear an oath and sets ios (ἰός), the venom, on the fruit for her to eat. The angels are described carrying thumiatēria (θυμιατήρια), tools of fumigation, along with kitharai (κιθάραι) and mixed drugs, and the god is even called the Ionian king. When Adam dies, he is carried to Acherousia (Ἀχερουσία), the door beneath the earth. In this reading, the tree of life is the same technology: athanasia (ἀθανασία), the immortality the venom and the music were saving for.
The ending draws the line the series has kept drawing. Satan is the one who refused to bow down to a man, while Michael bowed. The last Greek word is metaschēmatizetai (μετασχηματίζεται): Satan refigures himself into an angel of light, angelon phōtos. The point the channel presses is that the devil in this old Greek telling is the accuser and the teacher of the hidden knowledge, not the monster of the later story.
