Video Description
This workshop reads a borrowed scholarly chapter about the Mithras Liturgy from the Great Magical Papyrus of Paris. In the Greek, a father records mysteries for his daughter and tells her to take the juices of herbs and spices so that she can ascend and meet her grandfather, Helios (Ἥλιος), the sun. Almost every modern edition amends one word, but left alone it reads Aietes (Αἰήτης). Since Medea is called the granddaughter of Helios everywhere in the sources, the episode follows the chapter’s argument: the unnamed daughter is Medea, and the document is a note from Aietes passing the rite down to her.
Ammon Hillman reads it as an initiation formula rather than myth. The rite promises immortality, a burning away of mortality, with Helios Mithras named as the great god who ordered the revelation through an archangel and a plant whose juice anoints the eyes through colllyrion (κολλύριον) so the initiate can see. The same pattern, the episode remarks, came out later in the Gospels. Around it are the details the channel keeps: Aietes is a son of Helios and brother of Circe, the Magi descend from Medea, and the golden fleece is called an alchemical text, not a sheepskin.
The second half loops back to the search for the devil and the dragon. The word diabolos (διάβολος), the accuser, is built on dike (δίκη), justice, the one who stands against you in court, and the workshop shows the word at home in Plato and Aeschylus long before the church used it. Origen’s title, ho drakon ho archaios (ὁ δράκων ὁ ἀρχαῖος), the ancient dragon, is laid beside Revelation’s many-headed serpent, and then the many heads narrow to monocephalos (μονοκέφαλος), one head. Against the invented world of Solomon, the episode closes on two women credited with the cure: Circe and Medea, who made an anti-inflammatory and the antidote for the dog-bitten.

daughter is that they’re talking about, right? And where’s the daughter? Oh, God. He’s talking
it’s necessary for you to take this juice this kyle of these plants right you’re going to take
