Video Description

This is a careful, data-led piece from the Conscious Radical channel, and it opens with a content note on suicide for good reason. Men are dying by suicide at roughly three times the rate of women, while the rate at which women are killed by men has barely moved in thirty years. The video argues these are not competing problems but two faces of one system.

It resists the easy culture-war framing and points instead at the architecture underneath gender roles, the expectations that isolate men and the beliefs that justify violence against women. The conclusion is not despair but clarity: neither side wins while the whole structure stays unexamined.

There is no version of this video that is comfortable for everyone watching it
so a quick note before we start. This video discusses suicide including data on male suicide
rates and it mentions the death of Virginia Giffrey who died by suicide in April 2025.
There are no descriptions of method but if you’re struggling I’ve put support links in
the description and pinned in the comments. Take care of yourself first. I know who is in this room
Some of the men watching have been harmed by other men, by their fathers, by institutions,
by what they were taught they had to be. Some of the men watching have done harm,
some of them know it, some of them don’t and some are carrying both, which is the most common thing
a person in this life ends up carrying. Some of the women watching have experienced male violence
and some of you are still inside it. Some of you have been protected by the men in your lives and
are here because you love a man who is struggling and you don’t know how to help some of you are
here because you are angry and you want to see whether i’m going to say the thing nobody says
i’m not going to calibrate this video for any one of you because i can’t the moment i try to make
it comfortable for one group i lose the others and the argument stops being true so i’m going
to tell you what is true as far as the data can tell us and i’m going to trust you to sit with it
that’s the contract if you want to stay stay if you want comfort then there is a lot of it on the
rest of youtube i’m not going to give it to you here men in england and wales are dying by suicide
at roughly three times the rate of women the most recent data from 2025 puts the male rate at 17.7
per 100 000 the female rate is 5.5 men account for around three quarters of all suicides in this
country and that’s been true for most of the last 30 years in the same 30 years women in england and
wales have been killed by men at a rate that has barely shifted roughly one woman every three days
overwhelmingly by a current or former partner and overwhelmingly in her own home.
Three weeks ago CNN published an investigation into an online network where men were teaching
each other how to drug and sexually assault their wives and partners in their sleep.
A French lawmaker called it a school for coercion, a rape academy. Last month Louis Theroux released
a documentary on netflix about the manosphere an entire online economy built on monetizing
men’s loneliness by selling them contempt for women teenage boys are watching it one of the
young men film describes his role model this way he says life as a man you’re born without value
those are not competing stories they are the same story told from different angles men are dying of
of a thing that makes them unable to ask for help. Women are dying of men who have been trained to
believe that other people exist to be used. There is a growing economy of men who have been told
they are worthless and are being sold contempt as a substitute for meaning. At the top of it all
are systems of power that protect the men who do the worst of it. Something is producing all of
this. And as long as we keep arguing about which set of casualties is more important, we’re not
looking at the thing that is making all of them. I want us to start looking at the root cause
together. Let me start at the top because the top is where the system shows itself most clearly.
Jeffrey Epstein died in a federal jail cell in 2019. Since then, millions of pages of documents
have been released with more on their way. Decades of girls and boys being trafficked, abused and
exploited by some of the most powerful men in the world. The FBI has named at least 10 co-conspirators
but to date one person is in prison for it, Ghislaine Maxwell, a woman. The men in those files,
the ones who actually did the harm, are still free, they’re still rich and are still protected by the
institutions that were meant to hold them accountable. Oxfam’s 2026 report found that
global billionaire wealth hit $18.3 trillion, which is an 81% increase since 2020. There are
more than 3,000 billionaires in the world for the first time in history. Elon Musk became the first
person ever to hold more than half a trillion dollars in personal wealth and by the way
billionaires are 4 000 times more likely to hold political office than ordinary citizens and guess
what they are overwhelmingly men this is what the system looks like when you zoom out far enough to
see the whole of it there are a very small number of men at the very top wielding power that
concentrates further every year and below them there is a much larger number of men who are told
they’re in charge that they are the head of the household the provider and the protector paying
for a structure they have no real access to there is also a vast population of women who are told
the problem is the men they can see while the men doing the most damage are in rooms they will never
enter patriarchy does not mean all men have power it means a very specific small group of men have
accumulated enormous amounts of it and the system needed everybody else of men women institutions
to keep their concentration running most men are not at that table but the system that protects
the men at the table is the same system that has you awake at 3am in the morning wondering why you
you can’t sleep. Now I want to show you the data that changed how I think about this. In 2024,
5,728 suicides were registered in England and around three quarters of them were men. The male
suicide rate in provisional 2025 data was 17.7 per 100,000. Men who are aged 45 to 49 sit closer
to 25 per 100,000. That’s the highest rate of any group and I want that number to land so I’m going
to say it again. Men in their late 40s are dying by suicide at more than three times the rate of
women the same age. Men who have lived inside the system for long enough to feel the cost. Now if
you’ve been following the culture war online you will have heard an explanation for this and it
goes something like this. Feminism broke men, women entered the workforce, no-fault divorce
arrived, the traditional provider role collapsed and now men are dying because they don’t know who
they are anymore. It’s a clean story, it’s on a lot of podcasts and it’s wrong. I know it’s wrong
because we have data from before any of these things it blames. In 1897 the French sociologist
Emile Durkheim published the first major sociological study of suicide. Among his
findings were that men were dying by suicide at vastly higher rates than women. In the 1880s in
England and Wales the ratio was four to one. Now at that point women could not vote, could not own
property in any meaningful sense after marriage, could not keep their own earnings in most cases.
Now first wave feminism was fighting for those basic rights and hadn’t yet won them and yet men
were already dying at four times the rate of women. The highest recorded male suicide rates
in England and Wales came in 1905 and 1934. Both of those peaks happened before the things the
manosphere actually blames for male suffering. This was happening before women could work in
most professions, before the pill, before no-fault divorce and before women’s mass entry into the
workforce. In 1905 men had every structural advantage the traditional provider model claims
to give them. In 1934 the nuclear family was still culturally dominant and men were still
the near universal breadwinners. The arrangement men are now being told to mourn was completely
intact and they were dying at record rates. The lowest recorded suicide rates across the entire
historical record for both men and women come from the 21st century, the period in which gender
equality is at its highest point in human history. A European study looked at suicide rates across
countries during the 2008 financial crisis. Countries with more egalitarian gender norms
saw smaller increases in male suicide during the crisis. Countries with rigid
traditional gender roles saw sharper spikes. The more equality a society had
achieved the more protected its men were. So equality isn’t the threat but the
threat is the system that trained men to suppress everything that made them human.
So here is where both sets of numbers meet. The Femicide Census has been counting women killed
by men in the UK since 2009. Their most recent report is called 2,000 Women. It documents 2,000
women killed by men in the UK in the decade to 2024. One woman killed on average every three
days. 62% by a current or former partner overwhelmingly in their own homes. The rate
barely moves year after year. Across the same period the suicide rate for middle-aged men has
climbed and has hit a 20-year high. These are not competing arguments and they’re not a league table
because nobody wins in this system. The data on men dying by suicide and the data on women dying
at the hands of men are not competing arguments. They are the same argument. They are what happens
when a system teaches half the population that vulnerability is weakness and the other half that
their job is to absorb it. That is the thesis of this piece and I want it in your ears before we
go any further. In April 2025 a woman called Virginia Giffrey died by suicide at her home
in Western Australia. She was 41. She was one of the most prominent survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s
abuse and she was the woman who gave other survivors the courage to come forward. She spent
decades fighting institutions that had been built to protect the men who hurt her. Her family
statement said she lost her life to suicide after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex
trafficking. The system failed her and ground her down until she couldn’t keep going. Virginia’s
death belongs in both columns. A suicide that happened because of decades of male violence
and institutional protection of that violence and we cannot separate those two things. Margaret
Atwood asked a male friend why men feel threatened by women. He said they’re afraid women will laugh
at them. She asked her women students the same question about men. They said they’re afraid of
being killed. Different fears, same architecture. Women are trapped in the accommodating. Be nice,
be helpful, don’t be too much, don’t be too loud, don’t be too ambitious, but don’t be too passive
either, which are impossible rules anxiously navigated forever. Men are trapped in the armour.
Be stoic. Be capable. Don’t need anything. Don’t feel anything. Don’t let anyone see you cry.
Equally impossible rules. Different cages built by the same architect, the same system. The system
that needs compliance. Recruiting everybody it could reach differently but equally. Now I told
you at the start that there was no version of this video that was comfortable for everyone watching.
There isn’t and there won’t be. If you came in believing that patriarchy hurts only women,
the data says it’s also killing men and has been doing so for more than 140 years.
If you came in believing that men are the real victims and feminism is the problem,
the data says the opposite. Men were dying at higher rates before feminism existed and they
die at lower rates in more equal societies. The thing you have been told to be angry at
is not the thing hurting you if you came in believing that these are competing claims
that caring about one means dismissing the other the data says you have been sold a lie that makes
it easier for the machine to keep running men hurt women hurt within the same system and arguing
about which one hurts more is exactly what the system wants you doing because then you’re not
looking at the architecture. I want to tell you something honestly because it’s
the reason this video exists as a standalone piece rather than the first
part of a series. I started this thinking it would be a four-part series on the
patriarchy but while I was working on it I realized patriarchy isn’t actually the
root of what I want to show you, it’s one specific expression of something bigger.
So this is a standalone piece on what the data says about the gender dimension
of the system but the bigger work is what i’ll be making next and it’s called the architecture
and it’s about the thing that is producing all of what you’ve seen in this video and more the
architecture has three movements the architecture of influence is about what the unelected few
actually do the behavioral units the media consolidation the algorithm curation the nudge
at state scale the predictable capture of attention and emotion who built it who benefits
the architecture of division is about how the many are kept divided gender race immigration religion
class generation this video you’ve just watched sits inside this movement patriarchy as one
specific axis of a more general technique each piece takes one axis and shows how the division
is manufactured and maintained the architecture of the self is about the inner counterpart to the
outer system how the techniques of control operate not just between people but inside one person
how attention is shaped how identity is formed against what it’s been told to oppose how
consciousness has been colonised and how it might be recovered. The three movements are not
sequential, they are three lenses on the same thing. The architecture is singular, it operates
at all three levels simultaneously and the work of seeing it has to happen at all three levels
simultaneously too. Here is the frame that sits underneath the whole project, the same architecture
that built the outer structures built the inner ones. They hold each other in place. The work of
seeing one is the work of seeing the other. The work of refusing one is the work of refusing the
other. The people historically and now who have seen this most clearly have tended to be called
heretics, witches, mystics, cranks, conspiracy theorists or crazy women. Being called any of
those names is a sign that you’re looking in the right direction. I’m not here to substitute one
belief system for another, I’m here to offer a frame and to trust you to hold it against your
own life and to see what lights up. If this video has done what I hoped it would do, you’re already
doing that. You’re remembering moments, thinking about the people in your life who may have been
affected by this or asking whether a thing you believed about someone in your life might actually
be a thing the system told you to believe. As ever, take what lands here, leave what doesn’t.
push back in the comments I read them and I will respond the first piece of the architecture
is coming I’ll see you there your thinking belongs to you
