This Ammon U episode is built around one Greek verb, chriō (χρίω), and the medical texts that show what Christing meant before it became a title. The show reads Dioscorides on a treatment for night-time emissions: plaster the testicles with the seed of hemlock and plant juices to numb the part, and the word used for that plastering is katechriō (καταχρίω), to thoroughly Christ. Galen then argues against Christing the small breasts of virgins with the nightly oils, nychtēlis (νυκτηλίς), the myron (μύρον) that the priestesses of Aphrodite spread on their own private parts. The point is that Christing is a drug applied to the body, not an oral medicine.
